National Coastal Condition Assessment: Acadian
Province: Maine
To answer broad-scale questions about
environmental conditions, the U.S. EPA and its local partners have
periodically collected estuarine and coastal data from hundreds of
stations along the coasts of the continental United States as part of
the national Coastal Condition Assessment. Types of data include
water column parameters, sediment chemistry and toxicity, benthic
communities, demersal fish/lobsters, and tissue contaminants. The
Casco Bay Estuary Partnership has acted as coordinator for the NCCA's
statewide sampling program in Maine.
Publicly available NCA data are available from the Data Page of the National Coatsal Assessment website. CBEP's State of the Bay reports provide a more comprehensive picture of
the condition of Casco Bay because they reflect more sampling sites and
a longer time period than does the NEP CCR data.
National Coastal Condition Report III, 2008
Third in the series of environmental asessments of U.S. coastal waters.
The report is based primarily on NCA data collected in 2001 and 2002.
National
Coastal Condition Report II, 2005 This second in the series of environmental assessments of U.S. Coastal waters is based on samples taken between 1997 and 2000.
