and Volunteer Opportunities
Each academic year the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership
employs a student intern from the University of Southern Maine's Edmund
S. Muskie School of Public Service. Selection is based upon the
recommendation of Muskie School faculty.
In addition to monitoring toxic contaminants in sediments,
lobster and mussels and partially supporting the water quality monitoring
work of Friends of Casco Bay, the Estuary Partnership has joined with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a new multi-year National
Coastal Assessment monitoring program Coastal 2000. Maine is
part of this nationwide effort to survey the condition of coastal resources
by creating an integrated, comprehensive coastal monitoring program that
assesses ecological conditions. Internships related to crewing aboard a
research vessel during the summer sampling period are offered on an individual
basis. To find out more about this exciting opportunity, contact
Beverly
Bayley-Smith at the Estuary Partnership.
